Mini Split – Ductless Air Conditioners

Mini Splits or Ductless Air Conditioners – The Right Solution for Zoning  LG ArtCool Mini Split AC1

Mini Splits are an ideal solution for many home and business environments. The mini-split system is a ductless air application often used in multifamily housing. The mini split system can also be used for room or area zoning, correcting hot/cold spots, or for retrofits on add-ons in houses with an existing central air conditioning system.

They are similar to central systems in that the mini split has two main components consisting of an indoor air-handling unit and an outdoor compressor/condenser. The link or conduit which houses the power cable, suction tubing, refrigerant tubing and the condensate drain connects the two components.

Why Select a Mini Split or Wall Mounted Air Conditioner?

There are many advantages and some disadvantages to mini-split systems. Mini splits offer flexibility for cooling and heating an individual room and are popular for use in room additions, master bedrooms, sunrooms, or for converting a garage or similar area to a comfortable den, hobby area or workshop. Because of their relatively small size and the flexibility of room by room zoning they can provide an excellent solution for many homeowners and business owners.

Mitsubishi Mini SplitSince mini-splits are ductless air systems, they reduce the energy loss associated with force air ducted systems. As much as 30% of the energy consumption used for space conditioning can be lost through an inefficient ductwork system.

Mini split systems have many appealing features when compared to a window air conditioner. They are generally more esthetically appealing than most window air conditioners and can be suspended from a ceiling, flush mounted on a drop ceiling, or wall mounted. The wall mounted mini split air conditioner usually runs around 7 to 9 inches deep and some styles allow for a jacket cover or you can have a painting or poster on the front of the unit to dress it up and blend it into the room decor. In addition, there are a number of floor models available.

One of the major disadvantages of a mini split system is that, compared to a central HVAC system, they can be a relatively costly solution. On average it will cost you 30% more (excluding ductwork costs) to cool or heat an area using a mini-split or ductless air conditioning system. While they are generally not as conspicuous as a window air conditioner they are nowhere near as unobtrusive as a central air conditioning system. It is important that the installer correctly size each unit and determine the best location for installation.

Two very popular brands for mini split air system options are made by LG Art Cool Mini Split ductless air conditioning and the Mitsubishi ductless air conditioning system: Mr. Slim Mini-Split by Mitsubishi. Both offer very quiet and stylish units available as air conditioners as well as heat pump models.
